America's 250th birthday feels like it should be celebrated bigger than ever. But honestly, it also feels kinda forced. With our government, and society in general, being so politically polarized, and President Trump fanning the flames with his particular style of divisiveness, it's tough to feel good about America, Americans, and the American ideals of equality, liberty, opportunity, rights and democracy.
[sigh]
At least we all get to learn what semiquincentennial means.
And... and... and we can always celebrate at the local level, marking the occasion in small ways with friends and neighbors from both sides of the political aisle. We did our best!
