We do continue to be blessed by our gang! However, now 8 years later, things look different as the kids are grown and heading in their own directions, and thus the "together times" are fewer and farther in between. Thankfully we do still enjoy "Saturday at ChickFilA" at least a couple times a month and other various events with the smaller local gang. And thankfully the memories are forever!
For the last several years, we've really enjoyed a certain aspect of our lives: the time and energy we spend with our dear neighborhood friends, the Gommels & Jayroes. There have been many Friday evenings where the text comes in: Anyone up for dinner at X? X usually being Mi Cocina or Blaze Pizza or a handful of other local restaurants. Dinner is often followed by a walk nearby (such as the shoreline trail or at a city park) or perhaps a few stops to find geocaches on the way home.
Any time there is a school event or city happening, there is often coordination among our crew to go and hang together, such as our quaint city parades for 4th of July, Veteran's Day and Christmas. Our kids are all close in age (it's the 2nd graders that are all in common), so everyone gets along nicely (most of the time!).
These kids love being crazy together whether we're hanging by the pool or out on a grand adventure - they really don't care!

We have celebrated a number of birthdays. (Side note: We discovered the fountain of youth! Hang out with people that are 10 years younger than you!)
Mainly, we spend time having random conversations about nothing and just laughing a LOT...
The kids do a great job entertaining themselves, and thankfully, they are all truly "good kids" and haven't gotten into any real trouble, only a few crazy things!

The kids have created a ton of memories they will cherish forever and remember "from their childhood". Danielle and Annabelle have been the best of friends and practically inseparable since they met almost 4 years ago. Living right across the street from each other, affords a rare opportunity to spend countless hours together whenever free time arises...playing outside in the Gommels alley or playing school or babies in one of their rooms.
And three years ago, Naomi began creating her own special bond with Ivy, who was born the day after Naomi's birthday. Ivy absolutely adores Naomi, and will do things for Naomi that she won't do when her parents ask!
But alas, all good things must come to an end. And while we know it's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all, it doesn't make the sadness any easier. Today, we say goodbye to the Gommels, who are moving to Houston to be closer to their family.
And yes, we did know what we'd got before it was gone! It was an absolute blessing and treasure to have such a wonderful family, with similar values (albeit many different opinions!) living right across the street to share time, carpooling and parenting tips with. Our kids spent countless hours in their house and vice versa, and we all grew a little while together.
The Gommels are our people. Not because they're the same as we are, but maybe in spite of it. It's a rare thing when four adults' differing opinions compliment each other so well, and when they enjoy each other as much as the kids do. We will miss them for sure. We don't say goodbye, but instead, until we meet again...
