Strongmans

Ya know, something new comes along, I'll check it out. Especially if it's 5 minutes from my house. Most of the time. Although it would be great if everything I'm interested in just came to my backyard, though slightly unreasonable. I guess.

Anyway, here's something...

Ya know when you're channel surfing at 3am and something catches your eye on ESPN3? It's some big dudes rolling tractor tires, or telephone poles or something. Well, they brought it to The Colony.

I will check this out. I even got up early.
Iron Podium
Strongman National Qualifier
First up, the Axle Clean & Jerk... I believe that's Clean on the left, and he way outdid Jerk on the right with something like 5 full lifts of 385 pounds to win this round. Olympic gold for this division was 494 pounds (224 Kg), so pretty darn good for a smaller event like this. (for some reason 385 pounds doesn't seem super heavy for this, but watching these guys struggle made it seem extra real)
Next, the Farmer's Carry... This doesn't look too crazy, Jenny compared it to bringing in the groceries in one trip, until ya realize the weight involved: for the biggest of the big guys, it's 285 pounds in each hand! And according to math, that's carrying 570 pounds for 30 feet. Lots of tiny, fast steps to get there in a hurry. And an occasional awkward wipeout at the finish line since there's no graceful way to set down 570 pounds when you're on the move.
Then, the Wheel of Pain... This one doesn't look too strengthy, but it definitely takes alot of power, again, especially as the weight goes up. Push that dial around the wheel as far as you can with 475 pounds dragging on the other end. So, it's not only the weight, it's the friction of it dragging on the ground. And since ya have a minute to go as far as ya can, it's a cardio blast. Alot of lightheadedness after this one is complete.

Although we didn't stay for the Ukrainian Dead-Sled or Stairs of Despair, I'd say we got our money's worth of bulging veins and purple faces. Totally worth comin out for.

New thing ✅

364 days of training until the next one. Jenny, keep brining in those groceries. One trip!
