RETR@migo: March 9, 2020

It has been six years and Naomi confirmed that Ms. Cordle's class was one of her favorite middle school memories! (She also said, that Covid was the other defining moment of middle school because it cut short her time in Ms. Cordle's class...)

Middle school has been an interesting adventure for Naomi. She has almost made it through 6th, 7th and 8th grade without any major drama. Now, there is plenty of drama going on around her: silent lunches with assigned seats, lots of "bad" words and new topics learned, Tik Tok challenges resulting in damage to the school, kids suspended for selling drugs, kids suspended for doing drugs during school (it happened during her Spanish class), kids cheating on quizzes, friends being bullied, etc.

Every day when I pick Naomi up after school and ask, "How was your day? Anything interesting?", there is no telling what story she will tell.

Eighth grade has a neat twist! Naomi ended up in a very special circumstance: a young teacher, a small class size (12 students), last class of the day, and a perfect mix of kids that Naomi knows well. This blend has created a unique and incredibly fun experience for Naomi!

For example, on separate occasions Naomi and her classmates made macaroni and cheese and "mug" cakes. She has watched Wreck Ralph 2, as well as a Scooby Doo movie. There was an ongoing, friendly war with another class, that involved stealing school supplies and classroom decor -- it ended in peace when the other teacher (Science) invited everyone to explode Coke bottles with Mentos. Naomi used her stitching skills to perform "surgery" on Behr, the beloved classroom stuffed animal. (And just to be clear, there IS still learning going on...it's just that the small, cohesive class has the ability to make it more entertaining!)

For over 5 months we have been regularly hearing reports about Mrs. Cordle's English class. So when the announcement came home about the date for Open House, we cleared our calendars! We finally met the infamous teacher in person. She was taller and younger than we imagined, but a wonderful supporter of all her students!

Naomi will forever have memories and great stories to tell about her 8th grade ELA class! (English Language Arts). We will forever be grateful to Mrs. Cordle for allowing these crazy middle-schoolers have a bit of clean fun, amongst a whole lot of chaos!
