Generations of Grace

This month marks 50 years of First United Methodist Church The Colony! A pretty big deal in this town since not only was FUMC TC one of the first churches, it was actually one of the first non residential buildings in the newly incorporated city. And that original building is still in use today for church offices and New Hope pre-school.

To celebrate, a special jubilee service was held honoring the church's history over the last five decades. Several former pastors were invited to speak, and it was so interesting to hear from some of the names we'd only heard about. Rev. Judith Reedy, for example, was a leader so well liked and so integral in making the church what it is today. The stories of Pastor Judy are plentiful. And now, having seen her in person, we know why.

On a more personal note, we also enjoyed seeing Rev. Marsha Middleton again. In 2016, it was Pastor Marsha's service that initially led us to officially join the congregation during the church's 40th anniversary. At that time, we were attracted by the traditional style service, the focus on serving the local community, and the inclusive and welcoming beliefs focusing on "love thy neighbor as yourself".

In the decade since, we've enjoyed the belonging and opportunities to serve, as well as members past (Hundts), present (Crossfire youth), and future. (Jayroes maybe?) And our current pastor, Taylor Smith, is truly an excellent and engaging speaker. I particularly enjoy the way he gives historical context to biblical readings as part of his sermons. Here's hoping he sticks around as long as we do.

FUMC TC Vision
To be a loving church all working together to eradicate spiritual, relational,
and nutritional insecurity in our neighborhood.
