Under Our Roof: Finally Floors

Now that most of the big projects have been completed, we got to the final step: new floors!!

Well, new flooring in much of the house. The wood-looking ceramic tile that we installed back in 2014 is staying, except for in our bedroom.

After many tiles were destroyed for the foundation fixes and we did not have enough spare tiles to replace them, we decided to change things up. A line was cut between our bedroom and the "hall", and the remaining tiles were intentionally destroyed so that new carpet could be laid down. Here goes nothing...

And all done, nice squishy new carpet!

Next, was the 25 year old carpet (yep) up the stairs and beyond!

Stating the obvious here — but to replace carpet, you have to move everything out of the space. Yep. Everything. Thankfully, the carpet for the arcade was different and had to be special ordered, so the work happened over two separate days with a week in between. That gave us time to shuffle things around upstairs. For the first phase, we moved as much of the heavy furniture as we could into the arcade from Naomi and Danielle’s room. Everything else was hauled downstairs and piled into the dining room and living room.

The bathroom got an extra patch, due to the leak...plus nice new vinyl.

DONE (new colors coming soon...)

The second part was the arcade, which is home to a couch, tv, 7 heavy arcade games -- all of which had to be moved. So that will be for another post...

The weird factory smell of new carpet has faded, and now all that’s left are fluffy floors — and a shoes-off policy upstairs.
