Under Our Roof: Foundation Fixes

Here we go again...but this time... INSIDE! 😩

Yep, our journey with foundation problems and necessary repairs began in 2016 when we had 11 piers installed underneath the house along the northeast side. Then in 2022 we got 11 more piers along the northwest side. Guess what? We discovered they can do even more...in the middle! The sides were fairly stable, but the middle was starting to sink, so kinda like a taco. (My brain doesn't understand how this is possible if the edges are stable and the slab is solid concrete, but whatever...) Hoping third times the charm!

Interior piers means going thru the floor, as tunneling under is too cost prohibitive. We were thankful that it was only 4 piers and that they could be positioned within one area (our bedroom) with just 3 holes, thus minimizing the extent of destruction to the floors. And there was destruction...and dust. And a whole lot of dirt!

These guys can move earth!

Betcha you don't know what it looks like under your house!

Any while the crew was at it, they adjusted some of the existing piers outside. Simply amazing what was accomplished in 2 short days. And yes, they went in and out of our front window to reduce the spread of debris in the house.

Thank you to these guys - they do deserve a break!

$4,600 dollars later, the earth has been returned back to its place, the holes filled and capped with concrete and most of the mess has been cleaned up. We no longer have to traverse mounds of dirt and clay to get to our bathroom and the only working shower (but that's yet another story). At the moment, the room remains empty -- more to come on that soon!

In case you are wondering, Jeff and I moved out of our bedroom and took up residence in the arcade upstairs! The retro couch is quite comfy cozy, and we've enjoyed being surrounded by all of Jeff's 2025 arcade enhancements.

Stay tuned for the next update...
