Our long time friend, Erika (from our hockey days), was diagnosed with glioblastoma back in July of 2023...at the age of 47. This type of brain cancer typically starts a 14-18 month countdown. Enter amazing medical advancements, a tenacious spirit and miracles from Heaven, and Erika kept surpassing all the goals set for her, including one she wasn't supposed to see: her 50th birthday! Hallelujah.
She hosted a fabulous 50th birthday celebration for herself to enjoy, as well as a thank you to all those who have been near her over the years! (She has an incredible circle of friends around her.)
Jeff and had the honor of attending the bash and enjoyed the night of festivities with food, fun, friends...and dancing.
LOTS of dancing!
I'm usually not one to spend much time on the dance floor, but the invitation for this event stated:
I know how to follow directions and I respect ALL-CAPS. Therefore, let's go dancing!
And, well, I've got an item on my bucket list: Participate in flash-mob. I had a mini attempt last December, which was super fun and made me want to do more!
Backing up a bit, courtesy of one friend with all the ideas and one friend who can make things happen, an 11-person flash mob was staged to occur during the birthday party. For the last couple months, there were multiple practices and lots of coaching, videos and instructions. And it finally came together on this night to surprise Erika and give her something to remember! Alas, my wish came true too.
This will definitely be a moment to remember! Erika was surprised and had the hoped for response - she loved it and appreciated it, and certainly experienced the joy of her friends!
