In our family, events like these are usually Jenny only things. But the 9/11 remembrance, and the fact that fact that we could ruck it, made this one worth getting up early for.
Officially... "Rucking is what US military units call hiking under load. Very simply, it's walking a set distance while carrying weight in a backpack or rucksack."
For this event... people over 150 pounds must carry 20 pounds, people under 150 pounds must carry 10 pounds. And it can be in any form. In our case, the weighted vests we've been training with all summer. (for what? more to come on that...)
-Travis Manion
Organized by the Travis Manion Foundation, this event honors the fallen from 9/11 and the military in the wars that followed.
Finishers, yes, but not competitive. This was just a chance for us to get some work in. Sort of a rucking dress rehearsal. (for what? more to come...)
Amusing side story... Approaching the final turn, Jenny asked "Are we gonna run in?" Danielle, up for anything, agreed. I demurred. About a minute later, making the final turn, Danielle's face clearly had I am not letting you beat me written all over it. Oh yeah? IT'S ON! We both took off, leaving Jenny's cry of "Really?!?!?" behind us. The result: Danielle's face was right.
