Danielle kicked off her 8th grade volleyball season with an exciting game! This was also the inaugural match for Coach Owen, who brings playing experience and coaching wisdom to the team.
The team ran a 6-2 rotation (which they are still perfecting) and Danielle played back row and served (not libero as she had originally wanted, but she learned it can be a slight disadvantage to be libero because you are restricted in several ways). NOTE: I did not get a great picture of Danielle in action -- as I was too busy just watching the game and tracking stats (that's another story...)
The first set went to Durham, in a close 21-25 loss. There were many, um jitters, but those were reduced by the second set, which gave Griffin a victory of 25-22 and forced a third set (ie. maximum volleyball play time!) By the third set, the team was getting into the groove and won 25-21! It was fun to be back in the stands watching the game. Danielle definitely made many contributions towards the team victory and brought good energy to the court. She was not playing during the match point, but you can see number 4 rush in to enjoy the moment with the team!
Super proud of our family volleyball player - representing Griffin well. Wishing you a fun and successful season, Danielle! (We like the new volleyball hairstyle too.)
UPDATE: The morning after this game, Danielle was awarded the game ball for her improvements in serving and her hustle throughout the entire game! She was also offered the special jersey and libero position. She said, no big deal, but we were super proud and excited!
