Secret Agent Spy Birthday Party

Naomi decided she wanted a "spy" party for her 8th birthday. I have no idea where the idea came from, because not too long ago she was asking for an "around the world party" or a "spa party". Then suddenly all things spy-related consumed her brain! She also asked for it to be a sleepover.

I scoured the internet and found tons of spy party ideas (interestingly enough -- many were for 8 year old's -- guess that's the thing to do when you turn 8!). Naomi helped pick out the best games and activities.

Four secret spy agents arrived for the party spy training. After stating the secret passcode ("unicorns of jade") and choosing a secret agent spy name (Angel Dynamite, Silent Fox, Golden Hawk, Black Dragonfly), the training got under way. The spies had to solve several different types of clues (mirror writing, invisible ink, messages inside balloons, color-coded messages) which sent them on a scavenger hunt around the house and yard.

The clues eventually led them back just in time for pizza...

and cake, complete with exploding pop rocks. (yes, there are 8 candles on Naomi's cake)

The most favorite part of the evening was the laser maze (and I completely forgot to get a picture of it!) Before the party, Naomi, Danielle and I had taped sting/lasers in our super-sized closet that wraps around and underneath the stairs (which happened to already be empty due to our floor renovation!). It was a perfect "hallway" to create the lasers. The girls had to get over or under or around the lasers without breaking a beam to fetch a clue at the end. After conquering the lasers, they turned it into a game of good vs. evil and trying to scare each other (or something like that!). Playtime in the laser closet went on for a almost an hour...and resumed again in the morning!

The evening winded down with a popcorn and a movie: Spy Kids. Naomi had a great time and the world now has 6 more secret agents out there keeping us all safe!

  2. I agree, that sounds super fun. Our boys would love it. They are also into being spies, especially Christopher, who wishes he were 8!
I am inspired, I might try to put together a spy party for an end of summer celebration!
