Sting 3.0

Sting 1.0: Singer and bass player in The Police. Young. Hungry. Aggressive.
So much attitude. So much ENERGY! 🗲

Sting 2.0: Solo artist. Mature. Songwriter. Melodic.
So nice. So "adult contemporary". 💤

So, how's this gonna go?

DISCLOSURE: I've seen Sting a couple times before. Once wayyyyyy back on his Dream Of The Blue Turtles solo tour in 1985 in Norman, OK. (with my sister Suzi and her boyfriend (now husband) Scott) And a second time in 2007 on The Police Reunion Tour in Dallas, TX.

As great as Sting is (there's no The Police without him), the secret sauce in that band was and always will be Stewart Copeland on drums, and his insistence on playing everything faster! (which drove Sting crazy and was a major factor in the band's breakup) Thing is, it's exactly what those songs needed!

So seeing Sting solo now, without Copeland pushing the pace, really don't know what kind of show to expect.

But first... RAIN!
$30 lawn seats including all the weather = 90 minute delay
Leaning hard into The Police along with a Best Of his solo hits. Good set!
3 piece rock band, no flutes, clarinets or other weirdness. This is a good sign. Here we go!
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic (1981)

Message In A Bottle (1979)

Can't Stand Losing You (1978)

Regatta de Blanc (1979)

So Lonely (1978)

Not quite the energy of The Police, but far from the lounge singer I thought we might get. And the voice is still holding up! All good. 👏👏
TAKEAWAY: Sting 3.0, alot like Sting 1.0 (whew!)
