A Day In Old San Antonio

31 years. That's how long Jenny & I have been married. It's a milestone for sure, but not a round one. So, nothing too special on the actual day, but we're still marking the time.

And on USAA's dime: Jenny work trip + Jeff tag along = Sweet deal!

Back to the location of our very first trip: San Antonio!
Sea World San Antonio, April 1990
That's us, the blurry people under the arch. I promise!
San Antonio, April 2026
That's us, the blurry people blending into the mural. I promise!
New Old Arches
Everything looks like a mission when ya look thru the eyes of history.
Riverwalk
You can walk for miles (and we did), but the best part is the horseshoe.
Casa Rio
And the best part of the horseshoe is Casa Rio! The colorful umbrellas are practically a landmark, and haven't changed since it's opening in 1946 as the first restaurant on the Riverwalk. We've eaten here on every trip to San Antonio, and it never disappoints. Tradition!
Red Tunnel
Nothing noteworthy about it, except that it always seems like an interesting spot for a photo.
(2015 with N&D)
Be Kind & Rewind
Happy hour with David Bowie, just what we needed and right when we needed it.
VHS Flashback Cinema
Rediscovering the classics.
Ms Pac-Man
Classic arcades are usually my domain, but Jenny dominated the Pac-Man division this time.
Of the 5 different variations we played, she won all but 1 of em.
THE Alamo
When in Rome San Antonio...
Black Potion
The board game bar is now a staple for us. A chance to try a new game while having a drink always hits. Of course we always pick the retro ones!
The Oregon Trail: fun, pretty tough to win, similar vibe to the original only in tabletop form
D&D Dungeon Mayhem: meh, nothing at all like D&D, just laying down cards like War
After hours with the USAA Crew
Nathan - Matt - Neshka - Anita - Jenny - Adelyn
The Road Home: Family in Cedar Park
Really, really great to catch up with my Aunt Adrienne, my cousin Allan and his longtime partner Doug while passing through.
And happy to report that Aunt D is on the mend after a rough couple months!
The Road Home: Back To School in Taylor
What a cool idea! The town of Taylor has repurposed the former high school (1923-2008) as a new shopping and dining destination.
While the halls are still the halls (perfect!), the classrooms are now boutiques, the cafeteria an arcade...
... and the band hall a restaurant! (Plowman's Kitchen)
So cool to walk the halls, be surrounded by history, and feel the high school vibe.
Old Taylor High
History, fun, and a unique final stop of the trip.
