Under Our Roof: Below Our Feet

It's been a busy season of home repairs - some planned and expected, some not expected. This is the follow-up to the surprise discovery of "a leak" (which turned out to be two leaks) during the obligatory post-foundation water pressure test in January. Jeff found an alternative option  to do the repair - NuFlow: cutting-edge, trenchless pipe lining solutions that protects your property from unnecessary excavation (no tunneling under or through the foundation to get to the broken pipe).

It's an interesting process where they send a camera into the pipe to see the exact spot of the leak. Then they prepare a "liner" that gets inserted into the existing pipe at the compromised spot, expanded into place by a temporary inflated balloon thingy and hardened by some type of chemical reaction.

Identifying and measuring

Preparing the liner and temporary expander

Liner and inflater are ready to go!

Mixing the hardening agent - they've got 30 minutes to use it!

After the liner was installed, there were generators setup near by to keep the proper inflation/pressure on the liner inside the existing pipe so that it could properly harden over 12 hours overnight. (Yes, our water was shut off during this whole period of installation and hardening.

The next morning they used cameras to inspect and confirm all was good! Very minimal interruption and impact to the house, other than their estimated time of arrival is not very accurate. ⌚
