RETR@migo: October 7, 2011

Her second confession was about 10 years later (May 2021), in written form. I think we probably chuckled on this one too. Still working on perfecting our appropriate parental response.

While driving in the car a couple nights ago, Jeff and I suddenly heard a small, yet distinct voice coming from the back seat:
"I go Becky's office. I take time-out."
Huh? What was that? What did you say, Danielle?
"I go Becky's office. I take time-out."
Sure enough, we confirmed with Ms. Becky that Danielle had had her first infraction. She had not been following directions and had ignored repeated instructions and landed herself a spot on the floor in the office for 3 minutes. According to sources, she sat quietly, listened politely to the ruling and returned to class as her usual helpful, agreeable self.

We weren't sure what to do with her: talk to her to reinforce the need to listen and follow the teacher's instructions, applaud her for her honesty in volunteering this news with us or just giggle to ourselves at the fact that she was revealing this out of nowhere. We did the latter. Perhaps we'll be more prepared for parental responsibilities next time.
