Together at Tejas

Our framily friends, the Jayroes, have been inviting us to attend family camp with them for a couple years and we were finally able to say YES to experience Labor Day weekend at Camp Tejas! (Oh, and Jeff was finally going to experience going to camp!)

After a failed route by the designated navigator (uh huh, me), we made it to the correct Tejas Camp near Giddings, TX as opposed to the Tejas Park near Georgetown, TX. It was about an hour of extra driving, on top of an hour of Friday rush-hour traffic, but The Colony crew did eventually rendezvous with the College Station representative for 3 nights of family outdoor fun.

So what does one do at family camp? Well, it is very similar to summer camp for kids or church camp for tweens and teens, with all the typical outdoor camp options. However, as adults and as a family, you choose how much or little you want to experience. Why not start with the mud pit. Naomi and I only waded in, while Jeff and Danielle fully committed to the games and competition!

The small lake provided ample opportunity to de-mudify, and offered multiple water activities. There was huge inflatables, a giant side-by-side slide, a trapeze and a zipline. The water was pleasant for simply floating in lifevests and hanging out to cool off on the hot day.

In a smaller section, there were kayaks, small round boats and a paddleboard.

On land, the adventures continued during the Tejas Olympics, which lead us through a variety of activities.

Scavenger Hunt (ie. Character Find) Is that someone up in that tree and in that trashcan!?

We were well fed during the entire weekend, with 3 meals a day of delicious options including made-to-order omelets, chicken fried steak, brisket baked potatoes, chicken sandwiches and chicken alfredo. Oh, and free-flowing drink stations with all fruity flavors under the rainbow.

Danielle's personal fun

The rain that rolled through on Sunday early afternoon (for about an hour) simply allowed everyone an opportunity to take a quick  break or nap to recharge!

NOTE: After the rain lifted, Naomi did peel off a little early to head back to college so that she could stay on top of all her assignments!

We thoroughly enjoyed being adopted by Zan's family and had a fun time with them! We all agreed it was great being together and the camp was relaxing and time well spent. We are thrilled that we had this opportunity to build lasting memories of Labor Day 2025!
