St Louis: Fee Way

Now for the fun non-free activities in St. Louis, with the coolest thing hands-down being City Museum. We thought that 10 years ago, and it did not disappoint again! It rivals Meow Wolf for over the top immersive awesomeness. It is totally worth the cost of the ticket!

The outdoor section, which is best enjoyed after the sun goes down in the summer, is just bonkers. It is constructed using re-purposed materials to create nerve-testing obstacles.

My nerves were tested and the obstacles won -- everyone else did fine. (I was needed on the less-terrifying sections to capture photos anyways.)

The inside portion of the "museum" is multiple floors of tunnels and rooms and passageways that lead into the unknown. Everything is unique decorated with themes like trees or ocean or a skatepark.  Like, how do they come up with this stuff, and then design and construct it?

Around every corner was another surprise. We thought we had covered all the space, until late in our visit we discovered a door that led to an entire new section with a multi-story slide.

Something that seemed to be added over the last 10 years was the inclusion of live creatures. There was a huge dessert area with dozens of bearded dragons and a chameleon. And then this: a tank filled with hundreds of "flesh eating fish". You can stick your hand in the water, and it will be swarmed by tiny fish that nibble on your skin.

Naomi - no hesitation. Danielle - it took a good 10 minutes before she worked up the courage to submerge her hand!

World's largest underwear.. 🤷

It's been awhile, but mini golf is a regular on our family road trips. We appreciated the indoor-ness (A/C!) and enjoyed the uniqueness of Magic Mini Golf.

Chuck Berry, the "father or rock 'n roll" was born in St. Louis, and shows up all around the city.

The production line at Fitz's was not running this time, so no free 4-pack of grape soda. Thus we had to pay for our own round of delicious floats and shakes!

The other food favorite that we don't get very often is White Castle. We loaded up, twice!, on the 20-pack Crave Clutch! Plenty of sliders for everyone.

Saving the most iconic image of St. Louis for last, the Gateway Arch, which could have gone in either post - free from this angle, but not free to ride up to the top. We had planned to hop in a pod and catch a glimpse of the city from up high, but alas, we did not purchase tickets ahead of time and the only remaining slots were too late in the day for our other timed activities. (Naomi was secretly happy to not have to ride in the claustrophobic pods on a hot day!)

Guess we'll see if Team Smith makes it back to St. Louis in another 10 years...
