Correct answer: None. Repeat after me: You should not use liquid dish soap as a replacement for dishwasher detergent. Ever. Never.
So how did this happen? It was 10:30p at night, Jeff was not yet home from a Stars game, I was super tired and just wanted the sink empty and the dishes clean in the morning. We were out of dish detergent, so my incredibly confident and boisterous college student calmly said, just use dish soap. Normally, I double-check with Google on things like this (ie. Hey Google, can I feed my dog grapes?). But for whatever reason, my brain automatically did the processing and I took action. I squirted Dawn dish soap into the holder, flipped the lid down, started up the normal cycle and went to bed.
The night owls in the house made the discovery...and cleaned up the mess. I'm thankful they let me sleep. But yes, I got the message.
Although, I'm gonna be honest, despite the physical evidence and partially lived experience, a part of me still claims it defies logic -- both have "dish soap" in the name...
