The Summer She Wore A Blue Apron

Danielle now has her answer to the security question: Where was your first job?

(Sorry, D, guess you'll have to pick a different question now...😉)

Newest Culver's Employee!

Being 15 is a tricky time to find a place that will hire at that age. In fact, starting in April, Danielle identified 31 possible businesses, contacted or officially applied at 20, interviewed with 2 (Chili's and Kidzania) and then made no progress. One week into summer, I'm fairly certain she was secretly happy that she would get one more completely lazy summer.

And then...

Her friend who is a boy suddenly got a job at Culver's. Since it is located nearby, and she had plenty of free-time in her lazy summer, Danielle stopped by to visit him on his lunch break. While she was there, she followed up on the application that she had turned in weeks before. Well, the manager interviewed her on the spot and offered her a job! That was Friday. She started working on Monday. Bam. It happened before she had time to realize what was happening.

Not exactly the place she had tagged in her top choices or even in her secondary choices, but so far it is working out to be a reasonable "first job". And not a bad thing for everyone to work in food service at some point in their life. (My daily calendar coincidentally showed: Do what you have to do until you can do what you want to do. Oprah Winfrey)

So what has she been up to while on the clock? Making custard!! She packs the flavor-of-the-day in pint sizes and creates the variety of custard treats for customers. Next time you see her, ask about making her first unsupervised shake. Good thing they wear aprons! 😄

She also runs orders out to customers in the dining area or in the drive-thru. She is up moving around for her entire shift, minus the 30 minute break where she can finally sit. She's had tired feet and legs the first week. She'll likely be happier when she gets her first paycheck.

So what was the motivation for getting a job? Danielle was lukewarm to the idea - not totally for it, but not totally against it. This is just one of those teenage milestones on the way to an even bigger milestone later this fall, just like it was for Naomi

And oh, thanks for starting your payments into Social Security!
