Ok. I won't go so far as to put this on the Bad Words list, but I do have a word problem here.
It's not the meaning: "right now" or "currently" or "at present".
It's not the sound: pretty much just two words smooshed together.
It's the spelling. In particular that middle A.
Are we supposed to be saying now-a-days? (3 syllables)
Or worse, now-WA-days? (with a wuh in the middle)
Who does that?
Nobody, that's who.

It's there to match meter with "nowunthen"!
