Vegas Vacation, Down the Road

Once again, the main reason for being in Vegas, was to satisfy Naomi's dream of finally getting to experience Meow Wolf OmegaMart, situated with Area 15. (But more on that in its own future post!)

It wouldn't be a Vegas vacation without at least one "show". We opted for Nathan Burton's Comedy Magic Show. A smaller venue, for more up-close observing, but still plenty of tricks, illusions and showmanship.

Other than the required show, I suspect our time in Vegas was quite different than other families. Only a few others were enjoying the scene at the KISS World Mini Golf inside the Rio Hotel. Great music. Fun obstacles. A pretty close match-up after 18 holes.

Naomi commented that she just might have to come back and get married in the adjacent KISS wedding chapel some day! She's definitely a child of a child of the 80's.

After the constant sound of slot machines and non-stop crowds of people and every-so-often smell of smoke, it was time to head to a calmer spot. Just down the road we visited the resident bighorn sheep at Hemenway Park. They roam freely from the nearby rocky hills, but do keep their distance from humans. They know how to find the shady, soft green spot!

Further down the road, we made our way to the Hoover Dam. Seriously, this is an incredible engineering marvel. It might also be the only time the government has finished a project ahead of schedule. Simply amazing the amount of planning, orchestration and man-power that led to this being created.

The underground tour is the place to be when it gets hot outside!

I did not realize that half of the river (and half of the dam) is in Nevada, and the other half is in Arizona. Ya learn something new every day!

Back in Vegas we had one final stop, which might have been the coolest place (outside of Meow Wolf, of course) -- the Neon Museum, a boneyard for former neon signs! This place was set up really cool to be able to walk amongst the working (and some non-working) lights. We timed our visit perfectly at dusk (that's the way Jeff rolls...) to be able to see all, and also enjoy the glow of the neon (and argon).

A photographer's dream - lights, colors, depth, angles. (Even Naomi got in on the picture-taking excitement for her Instagram!)

What an unforgettable family vacation, filled with dazzling lights, fun attractions and so many iconic landmarks!
