Ohio: Halls of Fame

Probably one of the most notable destinations in Ohio is the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. We've actually been here before (pre-blog). This place is overflowing with of images, costumes, music and exhibits covering all time and genre of rock 'n roll.

There's a nod to the original rockers, who started it all! Much credit goes to the Blues, Folk and Gospel for influencing the the first pioneers of what would eventually become rock as we know it today. Viewing, reading, listening to your heart's content!

Of course those early artists were a major source of inspiration to Elvis and The Beatles.

And from there, all flavors of rock were formed! There is something for everyone in the genre housed in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I think all the artists take a little bit from each other, and pass it forward to others.

A special exhibit towers on the Fourth Level: Pink Floyd's The Wall. It's neat to learn what motivated Roger Waters to create this masterful album and images (isolation from fans after gaining immense success and popularity).

Head to Level Two to show off your talents and start you own band in The Garage. Jeff surely could have earned a contract on the guitar and bass - ask him for one of his band promo stickers. I failed miserably on keyboards.

You do eventually wind your way up and around to the actual Hall of Fame inductees! Surrounded by hundreds of music legends. Interesting note: there are 27 artist who have been inducted more than once (solo and bands), and Eric Clapton is the only three-time inductee!

Jeff might claim 2013 to be the best class of rockers: RUSH!

Ohio gets to claim TWO hall of fames, the second being the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This was also a repeat, the original being pre-blog. Plenty of change and new inductees since the last time (kind of like the periodic table -- there's always new elements being discovered and added!)

While the history and original legends of football have not changed, the memory fades, so it's like discovering it all for the first time!

Legendary

And if you are a fan of M*A*S*H, one notable site resides in Toledo! No, not just this nifty Greetings mural...

None other than Tony Packo's Cafe!

A place that became [more] famous thanks to Jamie Farr's character, Max Klinger, on M*A*S*H.

The World-famous Hungarian Hot Dogs served with original all-beef hot dog sauce, mustard, and onions did not disappoint Jeff. (I opted for the less famous vegetarian-friendly pierogis.)

And yes, while we were close by, we swung by the home of the Toledo Mud Hens! Max Klinger brought lots of attention to Toledo

Who knew there were so many famous things in Ohio, including the house and filming location of A Christmas Story!

Outside all that fame, there is plenty of plain ol' regular experiences too! How about a little relaxation and fun at a local boardgame bar. We discovered Quarto (find similarities), Quoridor (build walls) and Escape the Dark Castle, which was a bit like Choose Your Own Adventure crossed with Dungeons & Dragons. No surprise, Jeff is the dominate game master across the board.

And yes, Jeff found us a fun arcade to get our pinball wizardness!

If you've not been to Ohio, I highly recommend adding it to your vacation list! It's a neat place with plenty of nature, diversity and lots of famous things to see and do.
