Once In A Lifetime

It's Total Solar Eclipse Day in Dallas.

Jenny & I are at home. N&D are at school. Everybody is geared up! 😎

But... the clouds. 😬
JENNY trying to stay positive: "It says partly cloudy at 1:00pm! The clouds are gonna part!"
JEFF bringing the real: "It says partLY cloudy, not partING clouds. That's adjective, not a verb."

Will we even be able to see anything?
12:23 PM: Tiny nibble on the right side of the sun.
12:51 PM: Well underway, maybe 20% coverage. Lookin good!
1:36 PM: About 90% coverage, though it looks like less due to the haze created by clouds coming and going.
1:40 PM: Big cloud thins out just as sky starts to darken significantly. Ring of Fire starting to appear!
1:41 PM: Totality with only a tiny bit of cloudy haze.
1:42 PM: Ring of Fire! Bright white ring shimmering in a silvery sky. Looks like a special effect from a movie. Truly ASTONISHING! 😲
1:43 PM: Sky as dark as midnight. A few stars visible between the hazy clouds.

TAKEAWAY: INCREDIBLE!

Given the terrible weather forecast, we were not expecting anything close to this. Not only did the clouds part at just the right moment, exactly at totality, the haze that remained created a silvery textured backdrop around the Ring of Fire.

Future People, if you ever get a chance to see this, do not miss it!

  1. Neat that you can see what appears to be one of the planets.. Jupiter?...in the 1:42 photo.
