Starbase Texas

It is well known that I am a space nerd. And I will use my parental influence to pass along at least an appreciation for the space program to N&D.

So, if we're less than an hour away from something important, I gotta take us by there, right?
Brownsville TX: Gateway to Mexico AND Mars!

SpaceX kinda reminds me of the earliest days of NASA. Before the highways, hotels and visitor centers, and even the first astronauts, Kennedy Space Center was just a test facility out in the weeds near the Atlantic coast of Florida. Everything else came later, after they'd gotten off the ground (literally), when public interest took off (not literally).

Kinda interesting to think about how different this place may look in 20 years. And all the more reason to visit now, while it's still in the raw. (Note to N&D: Before ya bring your own kids here in 2051, show em these photos for comparison.)
SpaceX Boca Chica Launch Facility
March 12th: Texas State Highway 4 is one of those cool middle of nowhere roads that just dead ends at the beach. But just before is hits the sand, it passes maybe 200 feet (?) from the launch pad. Not the launch facility, the launch pad with the fully fueled Starship 3 rocket standing right there ready to go.
March 14th: Rocket launches are always cool. But even moreso when ya realize "We were just standing RIGHT THERE!"
Apparently, rocket science is more than just math. (if it weren't, smart people would've figured it out a long time ago) Seems like there's a good bit of trial and error, and even some luck. Good thing they got their own smart people out here slowly figuring it out. Their progress and evolution on display in their own Rocket Garden.
Gateway to Mars?
Hopefully someday...
(in my lifetime!)
