Summer of '23

Regarding nature, I get excited about rainbows, sun beams and weather records! Lucky for me, the summer of 2023 was one for the record books. Those of us in the Dallas area earned a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finish!

That first place finish for "Least Rainfall" sure hit the hardest though. Earlier this year, during the spring, I decided it was finally time to lay down a bunch of sod to replenish a section of our failing yard. Well, since our sprinkler system is no longer working, I had to manually babysit the squares of sod and hope that they would survive! Most of it is doing well, and time will tell on a few struggling bits.

Despite all the heat and lack of rain, I'm thankful and happy to report that the Texas energy grid and ERCOT kept our A/C running uninterrupted. I did get one email message stating:

Sept 7: ERCOT has issued an Energy Emergency Alert Level 2 - Conservation Critical. There are no controlled outages at this time. Large commercial and industrial customers that participate in demand response are being asked to reduce their electric usage to help lower the demand during this emergency.

But now we are back in the normal 90's, and all is well. Funny how 95 degrees doesn't feel so hot or unbearable anymore! It is all relative.
