I just realized that it was exactly 10 years ago, that Naomi and I embarked on our first ever Girl Scout camping experience! Danielle (and I) had her first camp experience just over 6 years ago. Another tally has been added to the camping history, as Naomi, Danielle and I just completed another outing at Girl Scout Camp Bette Perot this past weekend. This was a combination of Danielle's entire troop, plus a couple people from Naomi's troop.
The only weekend we could make work was in February, which falls during Girl Scout "cookie season", which means the camp was very empty. We had the treehouse area all to ourselves! The girls took advantage of that situation to make their beds a little more comfortable by borrowing mattresses from the empty cabins!
Part of camp is sharing the workload -- everyone had one cooking and one cleaning duty. Danielle and the other early birds did volunteer for Saturday morning breakfast duty, while the others slept in!
But of course, the FAVORITE activity is horseback riding! Since the camp was nearly vacant, the adults actually got to go on the trail ride too! (I was put on Bonnie -- on of the Tejas rider horses) And the ride lasted longer than in year's past...

But even better than the trail ride...arena riding! The girls got the opportunity to actually direct their horses, instead of just following the bum in front of them, as well as trotting and loping!
