Entering and Exiting Arkansas

There is no doubt that Jeff is absolutely the best trip planner. He can find all kinds of unique and fun places for us to visit while on road trips. His streak continued on our latest trip to Arkansas.

One disclaimer: One of the first places we stopped to eat on this trip turned out to be a regular restaurant. As we sat down, Naomi said: "Dad, you usually pick cool places to visit. Why are we here?"

Anyways, Jeff even made Texarkana fun and exciting for the kids. At the Half & Half Post Office, we actually got to stand in TWO states at the same time! (Tip: It's all in the presentation, delivery, and timing. Just wait 'til we take them to the Four Corners area!) There was a fountain nearby that the kids played in, which added to the fun.

The only other unique place in Texarkana is the Ace of Clubs House. It's an 1885 Italianate Victorian home built in the shape of a club, with three octagonal wings and an rectangular wing,

Naomi loved all the fancy decorations and Danielle got excited about the kid's room filled with dolls and toys. Jeff is planning to design our next house after this one.
Not pictured is the former resident's shoe collection -- she had an obsession with shoe shopping at Neiman Marcus and had like 500+ pairs of shoes, a portion of which were on display!

On the return trip through Texarkana, we spent several hours at Holiday Springs Water Park. I've come to realize that I'm only good at places like these for about 2 hours, and then the kids start seeking out Jeff because he's "the fun one". Lucky for me, I had Mother Nature on my side, and lightning forced everyone out of the water after about 3+ hours.

During this trip, Jeff discovered a new favorite place to eat: Gusano's, Chicago-Style pizza. We tried it first in Little Rock (post coming soon) and Jeff found there was also a Texarkana location, so he made sure we hit it up on the way home. He's been enjoying his leftover pizza for the last couple of days!

The big question: Will Gusano's rival Mercado Juarez?? It's only 179 miles away...

  1. Wow, who would have thought that pizza (even Chicago style) could ever hold a candle to Mercado Juarez??
