?day

What is the first day of the week?

If we believe our calendar, it's Sunday right? I mean, it starts a new line and all - that's pretty official.

But according to verbiage (ew), Sunday is part of the weekEND. The last part actually. So that'd make Monday day 1 then, right?

What gives?

  1. When I consulted Dr. Google, it seems that both are correct...depends on your particular beliefs. m/g

  2. Depends on my beliefs?

Ok. I'm socially progressive and fiscally conservative. So when does my week begin?

  3. If it helps, over here they have an expression when talking about dates - w/c - which stands for "week commencing". As in, "I'm free to meet on any Wednesday from w/c 2nd June" - and the date used to denote the week is always a Monday. But of course that's at work, so it would be weird if people used Sundays as a reference point.

(That expression may also be used in the States, it's just been so long I don't know anymore. )

  4. Oh and my Android calendar has Monday on the far left starting the week.

(I know I'm beating a dead horse by this stage)

  5. Your Android calendar weeks start with Monday? That's weird. Is that a setting?

My Android and Google calendars (which are synced) both start with Sunday.
