2nd Grade...check!

Today is Naomi's final day of second grade! It has been an absolutely fabulous year.

I know I have really enjoyed the last 9 months. In part, it's because she had a super awesome teacher...a teacher that brought so much more to learning than just words and numbers and assignments. Ms. Balla had been a kindergarten teacher for many years, but moved up to second grade just in time for Naomi! She had the perfect mix of patience and care and motivation and fun to encourage Naomi into all sorts of new experiences, including:
  • learning hundred's of new words and how to spell them...at least for spelling test day.
  • writing her first book...and then dedicating and gifting it to Ms. Balla.
  • finally mastering addition and subtraction beyond single digits...she just might be ready for multiplication now!
  • learning about many historical figures...dressing up and acting as Thomas Edison and Helen Keller and learning much about George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Harriett Tubman and Rosa Parks.
  • persevering through Ms. Balla's Perserverance Club and learned to ride her bicycle...and spending many Tuesday and Friday mornings pedaling to and from school.
  • making and growing friendships...which she celebrated double on "Twinkie Day"

Naomi completed the year on the A-Honor Roll and received a very appropriate award (voted on by her classmates and teacher): Always Smiling - for always brightening our days with your enthusiastic and bright smile.

I'm certain she will keep on smiling into summer! She is kicking it off with an official "Alex's Lemonade Stand" fundraiser, followed by an end-of-school sleepover at a friends house!
