Naomi did it! She has completed her first semester at Texas A&M. She put in the work and effort and earned herself a couple As and a couple Bs - finish, not last, success! She is now back at home with us for an entire month. Our family feels whole again with her presence. We are happy to hear her heavy footsteps again upstairs and find her on her favorite spot on the couch. Comfortable and familiar.
On the flip side, Naomi has definitively grown as an independent human being over the last 4 months. As a parent, this is, of course, the ultimate goal of a job well done! It is bittersweet, as she is slowly changing and maturing and becoming her own person. I have often thought of Naomi as confident, but now there is a self-assuredness that seems stronger in her. Another step towards her future.
Over the course of the semester, Naomi regularly recounted stories and adventures of her, her roommate, Quinci, and her friend, Kayla, from high school. They did much eating together, having movie nights, going on late night drives and hanging out. The three of them became a fun circle of friends.
When I asked Naomi for input on anything she wanted captured here, she responded with: "Python coding is fun."
I never thought I would hear that from her! Yes, she is currently in the College of Engineering (which includes Computer Science), but in the beginning, this path was more about the Math and Science side of the house. However, one of the required freshman engineering classes is an introduction to coding, and well, it turned out to be her favorite class! (Mind you, she had to take Chemistry, which is her least favorite class, so that might have helped bump up the others.) Whatever. I'm just so excited she has experienced the world of coding and enjoys it! We have bonded over the nerdiness. I'm taking my victory lap now, but time will tell...
BTW, this song lyric takes on new life this holiday season!
