The girls are regularly asking: When can we go camping?
And when I say "girls", I mean Naomi and Danielle, as well as our Girl Scout troop girls!
So when I noticed there was an upcoming Family Camp event being coordinated by our rec center, I put the word out for our Girl Scout families to register! Six families responded, plus two friend-of-friend families joined in. So of the 10 available slots, we filled eight of them! Bring on the outdoor fun.
The campout was held at nearby Stewart Creek Park at Lewisville Lake. While the forecast threatened of rain all day long, the weather held out and was perfect for paddle boarding, sand castle building and a little fishing. (No fish were injured, or even caught, during the filming of this event.)
The evening was just right for sitting around a fire, eating Dutch-oven sloppy joes and mac-n-cheese, building s'mores and just hanging out. The kids ran-amok while the adults worked on burning through a truckload of wood! Our party wound down after midnight, but the party [with loud speakers] just across the lake lasted until about 2am.
We woke with the sun a little before 7am, and everyone was packed up and cleared out around 8a just as a light rain finally arrived. Perfect timing!
