Countdown

In case you didn't know...

The Space Shuttle program is being retired later this year. NASA (nor any other U.S. government agency) has no definite plans for the future of manned spaceflight. This means that what started in May of 1961 is coming to an end.

In light of that fact, it seemed kinda important to let Naomi check it out while she could. It may seem like she's too young to get it, but I remember my interest in NASA beginning when I wasn't much older than she is now. So, after the approprate amount of pre-game hype, we gathered around my laptop to watch Atlantis blast off on May 14th.

She was pretty into it. In fact, at one point during the countdown, she jumped up, ran upstairs, and came back with her I Want To Be An Astronaut book. She then put it on the table and flipped thru the pages, following along with what was happenning on TV. (that's the book on the left open to the blast off page, indicating this pic was taken right before the shuttle launch)
It was pretty cool. :-)

Although Danielle was there for this one, it's kind of a bummer we won't be able to share this moment when she's a little older.

  2. Yeah, I do remember going to see the shuttle in OKC. It was when they were flying it across the country on the back of the 747.
