First, the easy part... Talya came over Friday night to swim, play on the playground and eat cheese pizza. If that isn't stacking the deck, I don't know what is. Despite the water being a bit chilly, neither girl would be denied their time in the pool. Apparently shivering and blue lips are better than no swimming at all.
And then the tricky part... It wasn't until bedtime that the "sleep over" part actually hit home. Naomi had to get her head around the "all night" part of the event (almost too much for her 3 year old brain to comprehend, "Talya can play with me more in the morning?"), and Talya, being the road team, had to deal with sleeping in a strange place (no small feat for someone who only recently started sleeping in her own bed).
So, after trying a few different configurations of kids in bed and on the floor, and about an hour of inmates running the asylum mayhem, we settled on both kids in Naomi's bed where, as excited as they were about sleeping together, they still wanted their own space. A late night look-in revealed they used magazines to settle the issue.
Somewhat surprisingly, both kids made it all night together. In fact, by morning, they seemed to have forgotten about boundaries completely.
On a somewhat related note, Jenny & I hosted our first (non familial) sleep over in quite some time on the same night. Talya's parents slept on the couch in the game room (and did not require a magazine border).
So, everything went well and I'm sure we'll do it again pretty soon. And I'm thinking, if we're gonna really teach these girls about what happens at a sleep over, someone's underwear needs to end up in the freezer.
I was "awe, how cute" until the last line when I had to laugh out loud.
