What made this a "must-do", rather than a "forget it, it's too much trouble", was the featured guest at this year's festival - Mo Willems. What? You've never heard of Mo Willems? Well, neither had we actually, but thanks to Aunt Jessica, Naomi was very familiar with his work, especially Don't Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus! In addition to his books, he's done several short films, so we figured she'd love it.
And boy did she! The "Tribute to Mo Willems" included an hour of short films (including Pigeon), a DVD and a hardback copy of Mo's book Leonardo The Terrible Monster. And to top it all off, we got to meet him afterwards to get our books signed!
Naomi was very composed during that last part and told Mo "I like the Pigeon. He's so silly. Thanks Mo Willems!" And for that, he doodled a Pigeon in her book.
Word of the day: Author: a person who writes a novel, poem, essay, etc.; the composer of a literary work; the Pigeon guy.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU TO AUNT JESSICA!! Not only do we have fun reading the books with Naomi every night, we also now have this memory too!!
ReplyDeleteBTW, she can recite the "Are you ready to play outside" story -- with all the right emotions.
That's fantastic! I'm so pleased. I think I did see somewhere that he made films as well as books. I just think he has a great sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad she got to meet him - some of my favorite memories from Springridge were the visits from the authors.
I look forward to a live performance from Naomi of "Are you ready to play outside" in May!
That is so cool!
ReplyDeleteWhat a smooth operator!
