Pee Hole, Part I

Amigo is pretty much the most well behaved dog we've ever heard of. She's never been much of a chewer, never had a problem with other dogs or people, and never, ever been one to "go" inside. On top of all that, she's a nice blend of chill when she's around the house and zesty when a leash or frisbee comes out. About the only time she's not cool is when she rides in the car and becomes a hyperactive, screaming freak. (not her fault though, pretty much a design flaw with the terrier breed)

So when Amigo walked over to Jenny and looked up at her before peeing on the floor right next to her foot, we kinda figured she must be trying to tell us something. And then while cleaning it up, we got the message: blood.

Poor meego.

Off to the vet who quickly diagnoses the bladder infection and prescribes antibiotics: take pills for two weeks, bring her back for follow up analysis. No problem.

Two weeks later, analysis reveals the infection is still there: more/different antibiotics, come back in two weeks. Ok.

Two weeks later (late June now), analysis still shows bacteria: hmph. What to do now? After some deliberation with the vet (Amigo is 15 years old, doesn't seem to be in pain, let's hold off on the exploratory abdominal surgery there doc), we decide to do an x-ray just to see if there's anything evident.
See that white spot there? Yep, theeeere's the problem - bladder stone, about the diameter of a quarter and 1/2" thick.

While the size of it (relative to her bladder) does make it seem pretty bad, we were actually relieved with the diagnosis. The stone would have to be removed, but once out, Amigo should return to normal. To put in another way: this wasn't signaling the beginning of the end - whew!

So, a bit of surgery and teeth cleaning later and Amigo is now on her way back, hopefully new and improved.

Way to go Amigo! Here's to a full recovery and many more years - we got your back.

  4. That's so funny. Whenever Keats has had a hard day close to when it's time to buy new food, I always debate about the "big bag."
