They're heee-eeere!

We've been in our house almost 10 years now (moved in July 1, 2000). In the beginning, there were very few trees and only small ones at best. There's a lot of things lacking when you have no trees.
But now, 10 years later our trees are bigger and there's plenty of them all around the neighborhood. I'm excited to say, the squirrels have arrived!

I see this one (or one of his identical cousins) daily running across the top of our fence and into our backyard trees. I've also seen multiple encounters between a mockingbird and a squirrel, where the mockingbird dive-bombs to attack a squirrel (wonder if the squirrel did something to provoke the bird, or if the bird was just having a bad day and the squirrel was in the wrong place at the wrong time?)

Anyways, I'm happy that our neighborhood is now providing adequate tree coverage and acorns for our squirrely neighbors.

  1. We call our squirrel fence path the "Squirrel Highway."
And I think the squirrels must be the jerks of the animal neighborhood. The chipmunk living in our underground drain pipes always "yell" (chirp really angrily) at the squirrels.

  2. As cute as they are, squirrels can be destructive little creatures if they get in your attic--love to chew on everything--wiring, insulation, etc. We have one in our big tree in the backyard and Mick is trying to "relocate" it! Good luck with that! They are fun to watch...busy little creatures. m/g

  3. So when the chipmunk yells in the drainpipe does it echo?

  4. Jenny, have Jeff build one of these: http://www.birdsandblooms.com/Birds/Simple-Squirrel-Feeder-/Print

We had so much fun watching them eat. Since they had plenty of things to munch on, they never botherd our roof or anything else.

  6. Pickles?! :o)

We used half a gallon one. The squirrel couldn't sit in it, but it worked fine. I think we bought it at Sprouts.
