Naomi Dreamin'

The amazing 3-year-old brain full of imagination and creativity strikes again! This time it's in the form of odd dreams and nightmares.

Naomi wakes up every once in a while in the middle of the night crying and calling out. I tend to wake up quicker than Jeff, so I run upstairs to check on her. First I usually have to locate her. Recently, I have found her in various places: sitting up in bed, standing in her closet and wandering around in Danielle's room.

Several times, it seems like she is awake, but by the end of my encounter with her I'm certain she must have still been asleep.

Here are a couple of her recent dreams:

Dream #1:
Me: Naomi, what's wrong, sweetheart?
Naomi, crying: The bunny rabbit got away and it made me sadder and sadder. I was holding it and it kept trying to get away. It's the pink bunny. It made me sadder and sadder.

Dream #2:
Me: Naomi, what's wrong, pumpkin?
Naomi, crying: Someone is calling for help. They are trapped. They can't get out.
Me: It's ok.
Naomi: They need help!!
Me: Well, let's throw them a rope and pull them out.
Naomi: No, No! They are stuck. They can't get out.

Dream #3:
Me: Naomi, are you ok?
Naomi, crying: There was mud coming in the house.
Me: Don't worry. You are too high for the mud to get you upstairs.
Naomi: Well it can flow up the stairs and get me.
[silence]
Naomi: Pigs like to play in the mud.

The encounters only last about 1 minute and then she is usually back asleep within seconds. Fascinating.

  2. Being married to a sleepwalker/sleeptalker, I feel your pain/amusement. You sort of get used to it... it's always disorienting, but you recover and realize what's going on sooner each time. Seems like your reactions are right on the money.
