Observed while driving to work this morning:
- 18-wheeler is in my lane just ahead of me. We're in the left lane going 70 mph in a 65 mph zone (ie. not going slow).
- Motorcycle comes speeding up on the right and cuts in between me and the 18-wheeler to get around a car going the speed limit in the middle lane.
- Motorcycle is now right up behind the 18-wheeler and thus invisible to the driver.
- As soon as the 18-wheeler passes the slower car, he puts on his right turn signal to get over to the right. At the same moment, the impatient motorcycle decides to pass on the right, but the 18-wheeler was already going there, so again the motorcycle is stuck behind it.
- This apparently ticks off the motorcycle driver, so what does he do? He speeds up in the far right lane, passes the 18-wheeler, pulls in front of the 18-wheeler and then jams on his brakes.
- Motorcycle continues to go slow for a couple miles until the 18-wheeler finally "concedes" and moves to the right lane, probably just to get away from the not-so-smart motorcycle to avoid an accident.
- The motorcycle driver puts his hand up in the air (couldn't see the exact gesture) and immediately speeds off.
Overheard when picking Naomi up from preschool this afternoon:
Kid: "Daaaaaaddyyyyyy!!!"What the heck is Dad doing buying his 4-year-old kid expensive clothes?! He's 4. He's a boy. This is preschool.
Dad: "Heyyyy son! [pause] What did you do to your clothes!? I'm not going to buy you expensive clothes if you can't take care of them!"
Real world is so much more entertaining than books and TV sometimes!
Did you just write "whipper snapper" grandma?
ReplyDeleteSee, not tangling with that motorcycle driver already shows you have more sense than he does. He would have yelled at you or given you whatever that gesture was up close...
ReplyDeleteAnd good grief, I'm totally with you on the expensive clothes thing... Pressure to keep clothes clean is a leading cause of ADHD.
Some people have a death wish--motorcycle--18 wheeler--no competition--crazy.
ReplyDeleteDo we think that 4 year olds understand "expensive"? m/g
nice greeting to your child!!!
