Fun with Great Grandpa

My grandpa (my mom's dad) recently moved into a new assisted-living facility in McKinney. I'm very excited that he is now just 20 minutes away because it means we'll get to visit him regularly. Plus, it's pretty cool that Naomi and Danielle will get to know their great grandpa...not many people get that opportunity.

The facility he moved into is brand new -- he is resident number 4. It is very nice and has many amenities...many that we like! For one, his room has a door that opens up to the enclosed courtyard, perfect for letting Naomi roam around.
The place has a snazzy game room with dominoes, checkers and yahtzee, plus computers with internet access. After "playing" each game board game, Naomi plugged in for a quick interactive story at Mickey Mouse's Clubhouse. It was at this point that Grandpa stole smiley Danielle and proudly showed her off to everyone around.
Grandpa has a Wii and bowls regularly. He challenged Naomi to a game. Grandpa smashed us...even with Danielle handicapping him!
I think Danielle and Naomi would both agree that the best part had to be the rides on Great Grandpa's cool motorized chair!! Naomi: Hey Great Grandpa, can this go faster?! Grandpa pushed a button, and sure enough, they took off!

Oh, did I mention the chocolate in his refrigerator and the popsicles in the snack freezer?? This place was instant nirvana in Naomi's book!

So there was a few moments when Grandpa, Danielle and I were outside in the courtyard. Naomi had run back inside on her own. I could kind of see her through the window and it looked like she was playing the Wii. After about 5 minutes, I decided I better check on her. What would I find:
  1. Would she be writing on some important paper laying on Grandpa's desk?
  2. Would she have gone back for yet another chocolate bar from the fridge?
  3. Would she have found Grandpa's medicine?
I was expecting 2. But turns out it was none of the above. Instead:
She had taken the covers off the wii remotes and put them on her feet! Of course, they were glass slippers to go with her princess dress. Who would have ever thought...

We look forward to more exciting adventures with Great Grandpa!

  2. Oh man! The wii-mote covers are just like jellies! I miss my jellies - can you still get them?

I'm glad y'all had fun at Grandpa's house - I'm looking forward to when we get to visit, too.
