I've decided to embark on a new challenge this year. Barring any unforeseen problems, I will run (or more appropriately, jog) a half marathon! 13.1 miles. Woohoo!
I've been jogging off and on for the last couple of years, but only short distances. I've often thought about taking it to the next level. I've never really had a desire to do a full marathon...I'm not interested in making that kind of time commitment, nor do I want to put my body through that kind of stress. So I'm very excited about the prospect of "the half" because it offers up a very healthy and do-able challenge for me.
I have selected the Heels and Hills event on May 2. That gives me 4 months to go from being fluffy and pregnant to being able to travel 13.1 miles on foot. My feet! It's all great, except for the fact that the bulk of my training is happening right now...in the winter...the coldest winter we've had in a long time!! But honestly, no complaints here. (well, only a few whiny moments) I just add another layer and head out the door!
My thanks to Jeff for supporting me and encouraging me on this. He definitely plays a role too. Normally, Naomi would join me in the jogging stroller. However, right now it's just too darn cold for that and Danielle is too little anyways, so Jeff has agreed to manage the 2 kiddos, while I traverse the neighborhood to train every other day.
By the way, my other New Years resolution is to stop "helping" Jeff drive. I have a very annoying habit of offering up suggestions to Jeff while we're in the car together (that lane is moving faster, just park here, why are you going this way -- the other way is shorter, etc) We'll see which resolution is harder for me to accomplish this year!!
Very exciting. I know you will have no trouble!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny about your driving resolution... I always remember when mom turned on the turn signal for Dad one time...
Good luck on both!
congratulations jenny.....you can do it.....
ReplyDeletejulie congrats on the memory you have....don't remember but it does sound like me....
your dad and i have tried a new rule about the driving - whoever is driving gets to pick the route and gets to make all of the decisions the passerager is than to just 'enjoy' the ride....it is so hard for both of us, but we r trying.....good luck to you both on both events.....mom
Good for you, Jenny!!! m/g
ReplyDeleteI think we see where you get it from.
ReplyDeleteAwesome goal. I have a 2 year old so I understand what it takes as a mom to get in that half marathon shape! I'm the Race Director for Heels and Hills - if you hadn't seen, this year we have special award categories for Moms so you might even win an award! If you need any help with training, coaching, or group runs to keep you motivated, remember that we are offering that this Spring when you register for the race. We kept it super duper affordable at $13 for the remaining 13 weeks until the race. Email us if you have any questions as you prepare! Congrats on deciding to be a more active YOU!
